Granados on Guitar “12 Danzas Espanolas”
release:2016/05/11
The 16th solo album is a collection of works by Spain’s national composer, Enrique Granados (1867-1916), whose 100th anniversary of passing occurs in 2016.
The CD title, “12 Spanish Dances,” is his own compilation. (Except for No. 2, arranged by Shingo Fujii.) This recording marks the world premiere of all 12 pieces performed as guitar solos.
Granados’s breakthrough work, “12 Spanish Dances,” was dedicated to Miss Amparo Garr, who became his lifelong companion. Granados met his untimely end when the steamship he was aboard was sunk by a German submarine. One account suggests he jumped into the sea to save his wife, who was floating in the waves, and never returned. These 12 pieces, overflowing with love for his beloved wife, are played with tender care.
Also included in this recording is the Poetic Waltzes collection, arranged by Shinichi Fukuda, a guitarist who has enjoyed an international career spanning many years. This masterful arrangement by one of the finest guitarists of our time adds further brilliance to this new masterpiece, dedicated to a great musician.
We sincerely hope this recording becomes a cherished favorite for all listeners, and that these pieces become essential repertoire for guitarists to come!
