The thirteenth album is the second installment of the “Sonata Collection.” It features four works: Giuliani’s Sonata Op. 15, arguably one of the greatest masterpieces of the Classical period; Berkeley’s “Sonatina Op. 51,” dedicated to the virtuoso Bream; Ponce’s “Sonata Clásica,” a tribute to Sor; and Turina’s “Sonata Op. 61 (based on the first draft)” from modern Spain.
Furthermore, this CD showcases performances on three renowned instruments (J.L. Romanillos, 1977 & 1986 models, and an Alcanher). The recording fully captures the distinct tonal qualities of each guitar.
While many guitarists focus their repertoire on shorter pieces, Masahiro Masuda consistently tackles the grand scale of sonatas. What kind of performance will he deliver this time? We eagerly await it.
